Zack On The Track
Zack has had a passion for racing since he was able to walk. He carries on a family tradition that dates back to his grandfather’s success with drag racing and on the dirt track.
His love for the sport fuels his desire to continually learn how to improve including, watching videos, helping build and prep his cars, and seeking advice from as many experienced racers as possible.
Zack raced the Winter Heat series at Charlotte Motor Speedway during the winters of 2012 – 2013 and 2013 – 2014. He finished all races as a top 3 finisher.
History
Quarter Midgets
Zack began his racing career with quarter-midgets at the age of four. Between ages four and five, he raced in both the Jr. Honda and Jr. Stock classes. At the age of six, Zack moved up to the Sr. Honda and Sr. Stock classes, in which he had significant success winning approximately thirty-seven races.
125 & 270 Micro Sprints
He began his experience with micro sprint cars at the age of seven, racing in the 390 Young Guns class in which he won four out of eleven races. At eight years old, Zack began racing 125 Winged Micro Sprint cars, ending the season as the 2013 Track Champion for his class. In 2014, Zack will move up to 270 Winged Micro Sprints and will compete in the Mason Dixon 270 Traveling Series.
WKA
Zack started racing road courses with WKA at the age of four in the Kid Karts division. He quickly moved up to the Sportsman 1 class at the age of five. At eight years old, Zack began racing at WKA national events, at which he consistently finished in the top three of the field.
At the age of eleven, Zack moved up to the thirteen – fifteen year old division with WKA which again, has been proven quite successful (see WKA article on www.zackwellsracing.com).
In 2014, Zack had an incredibly successful year with WKA. He set three new WKA records (most pole awards, most wins in a weekend, and most wins in a season) and, almost single-handedly, helped MGM Chassis win their first Manufacturer’s Cup award. Zack also won all three Junior WKA National Championships for the year.
Bandalero Car
Zack raced the Winter Heat series at Charlotte Motor Speedway during the winters of 2012 – 2013 and 2013 – 2014. He finished all races as a top three finisher.
INEX Legend Car
In 2014, Zack began racing his Legend car at various tracks on the east coast. He is now comfortably handling speeds of 140 mph. Despite racing against a field of racers who were eighteen years and above, Zack won the 2014 Turkey Bowl race at Summit Point Raceway.
Zack also participated in the Winter Heat Legends Race series at Charlotte Motor Speedway and finished ninth overall in points. Once again, he was the youngest driver in his field.
In 2015, Zack was the Maryland state Young Lions champion. He finished third in points at Shenandoah Speedway, competing against drivers ranging from age fifteen through fifty. He also won the Summit Point Raceway Turkey Bowl for the second year in a row.
Late Model
In 2015 when Zack turned 13 he began racing in the Whelen Late Model series at Shenandoah Speedway VA. He competed in 8 races, had seven top 10 finishes and one eleventh place finish.
From 2015 to 2018, Zack raced the US Legend series and the NASCAR Late Model Series at multiple tracks on the east coast consistently finishing in the top 5 and winning a lot of races.
In 2016, Zack earned his NASCAR license.
From 2019 to present, Zack raced the late model at Hickory Speedway and Florence Speedway consistently finished in the top 5.
The Future
Throughout his career, Zack has shown his ability to be competitive against any racer's in his classes, including those who are significantly older and or more experienced. He has also proven to be an intelligent driver with a unique ability to not only avoid crashes on the track but to use those opportunities to improve his position in the field.
